Where Does “Away” Really Go? The Story Behind Reboot Eco and Rethinking Waste
When we throw something “away,” where does it actually go?

It’s a question most of us rarely stop to consider. We place something in the garbage can, maybe think about the dumpster or the garbage truck, and then we trust that it disappears somewhere beyond our sight. That invisible destination, that mystical “away,” becomes part of our daily routine without a second thought.
But what happens when you realize that “away” doesn’t truly exist?
Hi, I’m Yasemin Ugurlu, founder of Reboot Eco, a refill shop and sustainable home essentials store built around one core idea: sustainable living should feel realistic, approachable, and grounded in real life.
The Moment That Changed Everything
In 2020, I watched the documentary A Plastic Ocean. Like many people, I believed I was already doing my part to support the environment. I recycled diligently. I bought recycled paper products. I carried reusable shopping bags and avoided plastic produce bags whenever possible.
I cared deeply about sustainability, and honestly, I felt good about my habits.
They were easy.
But learning the truth about plastic recycling changed everything.
Since the 1950s, over 8.3 billion tons of plastic have been produced worldwide. Only about 9 percent has ever been recycled. That number is not low because people fail to recycle. It’s low because most plastic isn’t truly recyclable in the first place.
Plastic can often only be recycled once before its quality degrades. After that, it usually ends up in landfills, incinerators, or oceans.
Realizing this felt like discovering a hidden truth behind everyday life. I wasn’t just frustrated. I felt misled, and I knew I wanted to do more than just recycle.
Searching for Realistic Sustainable Solutions
I began researching sustainable living practices, refill systems, and low waste home routines from around the world. I read books, followed emerging zero waste communities, and explored alternative ways to reduce plastic waste.

But something was missing.
Many eco-friendly products felt inaccessible or overly expensive. Some sustainable systems required perfection or major lifestyle overhauls that didn’t feel realistic for everyday households.
I wanted solutions that felt achievable, not intimidating.
That’s when the idea for Reboot Eco began to take shape.
Why Reboot Eco Exists
Reboot Eco was founded to make sustainable choices easier to navigate. Instead of overwhelming customers with endless options or unrealistic expectations, we focus on thoughtful curation.
Our refill shop offers refill stations for household cleaners and bath products, along with non-toxic home and personal care items chosen for function, transparency, and long-term use.
The goal is simple:
help people reduce single-use plastic and adopt sustainable habits that actually last.
Sustainability is not about perfection. It’s about progress.
The Truth About Plastic Waste and Why It Matters
Reducing single-use plastic is more than a trend. It plays a direct role in addressing some of the biggest environmental challenges we face today:
-
Pollution and landfill overflow
-
Biodiversity loss
-
Ocean acidification
-
Resource depletion
-
Water security concerns
-
Climate change and global warming
Switching to refillable products, reusable systems, and non-toxic cleaning solutions can create meaningful impact over time. Small changes, repeated consistently, can reshape the way we consume.
Sustainable Living Should Feel Practical, Not Overwhelming
One of the biggest misconceptions about zero waste living is that it requires a fully perfected routine.
At Reboot Eco, we believe the opposite.
You don’t need to have the perfect containers or eliminate all plastic overnight. Many people begin with one simple swap, like refilling a household cleaner or trying a low waste personal care product, and gradually build from there.
Our role is not to pressure people into changing everything at once. It’s to remove friction so sustainable choices feel approachable and achievable.
A Community-Led Approach to Change
Reboot Eco has grown alongside the community that supports it. Customer feedback shapes the products we carry and the refill systems we develop. The goal has always been to create a space where sustainability feels collaborative rather than exclusive.
We’re still learning. We’re still evolving.
And we believe the journey toward a low waste lifestyle is something we figure out together.
Join the Journey Toward Less Waste
The truth is, I’m still learning how to live more sustainably every day.
Reboot Eco exists not as a final destination, but as a starting point for people who want to reduce waste, make more conscious choices, and rethink the idea of “away.”
If you’re curious about refill stations, sustainable cleaning products, or realistic eco swaps, you’re already part of the conversation.
Let’s keep learning, growing, and building better habits together.
